BECKMAN AND LEWIS BEAT THE HEAT AND A STELLAR FIELD TO CLAIM ONE POLE VICTORY!

With some of if not the best one pole anglers in the country participating, Matt Beckman and Jeff Lewis held off several strong Championship Saturday charges to go wire to wire and claim their first Crappie Masters One Pole Ultimate Challenge victory on June 16th and 17th. Sponsored by The Renewable Fuels Association "Ethanol Fueled With Pride", American Ethanol, and Bass Pro Shops, Midsouth Tackle Company, and the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, ninety-two teams participated in this artificial bait only shoot out with Beckman saying everything had to go right to get in the winners circle, and it did.  He also stated that he and Lewis had two perfect days of fishing with decision making and landing the quality fish that would eventually lead to the title. Leading after day one with a weight of 10.48 pounds, Beckman said he and Lewis really didn't feel a lot of pressure going into Championship Saturday and confidence in their fishing locations was a big key to victory. The team caught their winning fish on predominantly Black and Chartreuse Bobby Garland Slab Slayers, Midsouth tubes, and Muddy Water Baits on the bottom in 9 to 11 foot of water, using 10 foot Jenko Hypersense Rods, Humminbird electronics, Minn Kota Trolling Motor, and Mercury Motor to power their boat.  The winning weight of 21.20 pounds was enough to claim the $7500.00 Championship prize along with an additional $500.00 bonus from the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, a $100.00 Jenko Fishing bonus for using Jenko products, and a $500.00 Midsouth Tackle bonus for winning the tournament and using Midsouth tubes. Beckman and Lewis are sponsored by Jenko Fishing, Muddy Water Baits, Midwest Marine, and Alenco Home Improvement.

COX AND HOCKETT WIN OZARK RODS REND LAKE OPEN

With pre-fishing a challenge for teams with falling water and changing weather conditions, tournament day at the Crappie Masters Ozark Rods Open on Rend Lake, sponsored by The Renewable Fuels Association "Ethanol Fueled With Pride", American Ethanol, Bass Pro Shops brought perfect weather conditions. Sunshine and light winds played right into the hands of eventual winners, the Ozark Rods team of David Cox and Steve Hockett who went with what they know best and spider rigged their way to a victory at the home of their sponsor Ozark Rods and solidified their goal of winning Crappie Masters Angler Team of the Year which they lost by one point in 2016.  The team decided not to single pole the buck brush like most local teams and used their Mercury Motor, Humminbird Electronics, and Minn Kota Trolling Motor to go as slow as possible to catch their tournament fish in an area that had produced in the past, but had not in practice. The decision by Hockett to fish that area with light winds paid off.  Using 16 foot Ozark Rods with white and chartreuse jigs and minnows, Cox and Hockett found their fish 6 feet deep in 9 feet of water bringing 7 fish weighing 10.33 pounds to the scale, leading them to an over one pound victory. Cox and Hockett stated the key to victory was slowing down to trigger their bite.  Cox and Hockett took home $3800.00 for the win along with the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol $250.00 bonus for using E10 fuel in their boat.  Cox and Hockett will also receive an additional $250.00 for winning and being in the Power Pole Captain's Cash Program.  Cox and Hockett are sponsored by Ozark Rods, Everhart's Outdoor Store, and Do-It Molds.

CRITICAL DECISIONS LEAD PHILLIPS TO ALABAMA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Adjustments, weather, patience, consistency, and a bit of redemption were all in play at the Crappie Masters Alabama State Championship, sponsored by The Renewable Fuels Association "Ethanol Fueled With Pride", American Ethanol, Bass Pro Shops, Elmore County Commission, and the City of Prattville, on the Alabama River and Lake Jordan, May 5th & 6th.

The local husband and wife team of Jonathan and Alicia Phillips made a key strategic decision on Championship Saturday that would ultimately lead them to their first Crappie Masters title and first Alabama State Championship in front of family and friends. Team Phillips topped the scales with 14 fish weighing 23.89 pounds to leap frog over day one leaders Collier Hunt and Ken Fisher who went into Championship Saturday with a nearly two pound lead but faltered on Saturday to collect $5000.00 for the win plus taking home the additional Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol $500.00 bonus for using E10 fuel in their boat, along with another $100.00 Jenko Fishing Bonus for using their products bringing their Championship winnings to $5600.00. Jonathan and Alicia also won a $100.00 Grizzly Jig Company certificate for being the top Male/Female team of the Championship. The Phillips’ have been in the top 10 in prior Crappie Masters events, falling just short before. This tournament was not to be another as the Phillips checked weather forecasts, lake knowledge, and went into the Crappie Masters Alabama State Championship with a solid plan, however on day two, Jonathan and Alicia made a brave, but winning decision abandoning the teams plans to spider rig and/or long line Lake Jordan due to heavy boat traffic and chose to one pole structure Jonathan had seen produce before, but due to weather fluctuations hadn't been, until Championship Saturday when it all came together as Jonathan stated; " like it should be this time of year"!  Jonathan who guides on Lake Jordan, used his Mercury Motor, Humminbird electronics and Minn Kota trolling Motor to identify structures that held quality fish, spider rigging on day one, but single poling them on day two using minnows and Jigs in 12 to 15 feet of water with the better bite in the 12 foot area. The Phillips’ stated the keys to victory were patience, being consistent, and Alicia's insistence on fishing Lake Jordan on Championship Saturday as opposed to the river. Jonathan and Alicia Phillips are sponsored by Road Runner, ACC Crappie Stix, Ziptailz, Slab Slobber, Dub-L-Seat, Tru-Turn Hooks, Driftmaster, Corn Field Crappie Gear, Airport Marine, and Silent Stalker.
