Champions Carter and Sheppard Continue With Grenada Victory

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters kicked off the 2015 tournament season with a qualifier on Grenada Lake. The Early Bird tournament, sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Mercury Motors, City of Grenada, Grenada County and the Grenada Tourism Council, allows anglers to competed and qualify for the 2015 national championship to be held on Kentucky/Barkley Lake.

The 2014 National Champions, Alan Carter and Tony Sheppard, kept their winning ways going on Grenada Lake by taking first place with 25.97 lbs. Sponsored by the Ozark Rod Company and Crazy Angler, the team fished out of a Triton boat with a Mercury motor, Humminbird electronics and Minn Kota trolling motor. Using Ozark Rods and Crazy Angler slab bandits the team was spider rigging at faster speeds. They fished 6-10 foot waters catching fish 6 foot deep.

 

Brandon Fulgham and Patrick Stone took second place with 25.17 lbs. Sponsored by Tite-lok, Ozark Rods and MidSouth Tackle the team fished out of a Ranger boat with a Yamaha motor. They used Humminbird electronics and a Minn Kota trolling motor. They were fishing in 13-18 foot waters, catching fish 10-12 feet deep. They were slow trolling using Ozark Rods and double hook minnow rigs.

Third place was David Thorton and Shelton Culpepper with 25.05 lbs. Sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance the team was fishing in a Triton boat with a Mercury motor using Humminbird electronics and a Minn Kota trolling motor. Using BnM BGJP poles and Bait jigs tipped with minnows the team was spider rigging at faster (1.0 mph) speeds in 7-15 foot waters. They were catching their fish 5-7 foot deep.

Top big fish was a tie between Chaney Starnes and Glenn Fazier with the team of Neal Quin and Lynn Quinn.  Each team weighed in a 2.56 lb. slab. Second big fish was Ronnie Capps and Steve Coleman with a 2.53 lb. crappie. Top male-female team was Gilford Sipes and Angela Waites with 15.03 lbs. The top adult-youth team was Chris and Cameron Younger with 14.97 lbs.

Next on the tournament trail is the first leg of the Florida State Championship after the new year. The first leg will be the St. Johns River in Deland, FL on February 7th, 2015.
