Crappie Masters All American Tournament Trail held a national qualifier, March 7, 2015 on Lake Greenwood, Greenwood, South Carolina. Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine and Nitro Boats, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Greenwood Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau, the tournament will qualify anglers for the 2015 National Championship to be held on Kentucky Lake, Paris, Tennessee.
Up and down weather continues in the Southeast as below freezing temperatures start off the day of the one-daynational qualifier on Lake Greenwood. The week of pre-fishing consisted of up and down weather conditions that had the fishing changing patterns daily. Reports of twelve to thirteen pound stringers were reported throughout the week, but drastic drops in water temperature made for a close finish with lighter weights than expected.
Long Lining Legend Marc Danque lead the way to a first place finish with a seven fish limit total weight of 10.87 pounds. Mr. Danque gave credit to years of electronics experience to help determine the crappie were high in the water column while long line trolling with blue/silver/chartreuse jigs in rages of 2-20 foot of water, catching fish 2-6 foot deep. The winning weight earned Danque a check for $2,700.00 plus a $250.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10 gasoline in his boat motor. Mr. Danque is sponsored by Minn Kota, Lowrance, and The Crappie Hole.
Finishing second, just .02 pounds out of the lead, was the team of Kevin Hawkins and Ron Lundy with 10.85 pounds. Hawkins and Lundy were also long line trolling in 3-20 foot waters with a Minn Kota Trolling Motor and Humminbird Electronics, catching crappie 3-6 foot deep of white and chartreuse jigs. The team earned $1,400.00 for their efforts.
William Hinson and Tommy Slice finished of the top three with a weight of 10.73 pounds.
Sponsored by Fish Stalker, Tru Vista Outdoors, Southern Crappie Angler TV, and Melissa’s Moments, the long liners were trolling in 18-20 foot waters catching their crappie 11-12 foot deep with BnM poles, a Minn Kota Trolling Motor and Stren line. Hinson and Slice took home a check for $700.00.
Big Fish winners were the team of Matthew Outlaw and Wesley Phibbs with a nice black crappie weighing 2.18 pounds, which earned them a check for $420.
