Shane Cappel and Jesse Shoemake take the First Leg of the Missouri State Championship

Lake of the Ozarks hosted the first leg of the Missouri State Championship on Saturday, April 11, 2015. The Missouri team of Shane Cappel and Jesse Shoemake weighed in a seven fish limit of 10.62 pounds to take home the trophy by a narrow margin along with a check for $4250.00 which included a $250.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10 gasoline in their Mercury Motor. Cappel and Shoemake were slow trolling in 12-14 foot of water from a Ranger boat with a Minn Kota trolling motor, catching their winning crappie 8 foot down. The team was using BnM BGJP 16’ trolling poles with Bass Pro line and catching fish on Lake Fork and Muddy Water lime/chartreuse jigs. They are sponsored by Perotti Built, Crappie Town, Balzout, and RNT Duck Calls.

Finishing just .08 pounds back and in second place was the team of Tom and Mitch Sobaski with a total weight of 10.54 pounds. The Sobaski’s were spider rigging from a Ranger boat, equipped with a Minn Kota trolling motor and Humminbird electronics, in 13-14 foot of water catching their crappie with doulble minnow rigs, 8 foot down with BnM Poles with Stren Crappie Mono. Tom and Mitch took home a check for $2000.00.

Third place went to the local team of Greg Webster and Brandon Vogeler with 10.28 pounds. The team used one pole each to shoot docks and dip submerged brush piles with an assortment of bright colored homemade jigs, catching their crappie in 3-14 foot of water at various depths. Webster and Vogeler earned $1200.00.

Big fish of the tournament honors went to John Moore and Pam Edgar with a 1.88 pound Ozark slab crappie worth $1092.00. Moore and Edgar also won the Male/Female division with a weight of 9.94 pounds which also landed them in 6th place overall. All together the team took home $1892.00 plus a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card. 

Adult/Youth division winners were the father/son team of Aaron and Dylan Clark from Iowa with 5.53 pounds. The Clark’s won a$100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card.
