Robert Jones Wins The Big Crappie Challenge On Truman Lake

One hundred and eighty anglers from seven differnet states traveled to Truman Lake, Clinton, MO to take a crack at winning a brand new 2015 Harley Davidson Iron 883 Sportster from Yeager's Cycle in Sedalia, MO on Saturday, May 30th. Truman Lake, known for its incredible one pole fishing, was experiencing rapidly rising waters, falling water temperatures, and a major cold front with storms passing through that made for tough crappie catching conditions. At the end of the day there was over $25,000.00 in cash and prizes awarded as anglers toughed out of the day, in hopes of riding away with the top prize.

Appleton City, MO resident, Bob Jones, weighed in a 1.72 pound crappie, caught during the 1-4:00pm session to win the 2015 Big Crappie Challenge. This one crappie earned Jones the top prize of a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle valued at $9500.00 plus a check for $865.00 for winning the 1-4:00pm session. Bob was fishing from a Nitro boat, spider rigging in shallow waters with 12' BnM Sam Heaton Poles around flooded bushes. The winning crappie was caught on a Road Runner jig head with a minnow.

The second big crappie of the day was caught by Phillip Haynes of Versailles, MO, during the 10:00am-1:00pm session, weighing 1.69 pounds. Haynes was one pole fishing with an Ozark Rod when he pitched a jig into standing timber to catch the crappie that won him $3065.00, $865.00 for winning the 10:00am-1:00pm session and $2200.00 for second big crappie of the tournament.

bigcrappie3rd Matt Beckman, Odessa, MO and Allen Morgan, Springfield, MO, tied for third big crappie of the day with a 1.65 pound crappie. Beckman caught his crappie in the final hour of the 1-4:00pm session while one pole fishing visible timber. Matt received a check for $1175.00, $625.00 for the second big crappie in the final session and $550.00 for third big crappie of the day. Morgan also was one pole fishing with jigs when he caught the second big crappie of the 10:00am-1:00pm session and third big crappie of the day. Allen also took home a check for $1175.00.

First time tournament angler Matthew Rogers, El Dorado Springs, MO, won the 7-10:00am session with a 1.50 pound  crappie. Rogers caught his crappie on a Bobby Garland jig and an Ozark Rod. Matthew decided to fish this tournament after debating on whether or not to due to not knowing the lake very well, then local tournament angler Jared Fosnow asked Matthew to join him on tournament day. This ended up paying off as Rogers earned a check for $865.00.

Dylan Clark, Iowa, won the youth division with nice 1.39 pound crappie to take home a brand new trolling motor donated by Minn Kota. Cody Jones, Harrisonville, MO, finished second in the youth division and won a new Wild River Tackle Bag and an 11' Ozark Rod.

Natasha Goucher, Clinton, MO, won the female division with a .81 pound crappie worth $100.00 cash and a $100.00 Grizzly Jig Co. gift card. Second in the female division was Jessica Wilson with a .69 pound crappie. Jessica won a BnM Pole and a Stren combo pack.
