Sixty-five teams from across the country gathered in Stoutsville, MO on Mark Twain Lake this Saturday, Aug. 6th, for the second leg of the Crappie Masters Missouri State Championship and One Day National Qualifier, sponsored by Stren. The 130 anglers faced tough fishing conditions with the lake rising over ten feet in five days. State Championship and crucial National points were on the line along with a $15,000.00 in cash and prizes and as always, someone figures out the winning combination.
Brad Ruyle, Illinois, and Reggie Redinger, Missouri, put together an impressive seven fish stringer weighing 8.05 pounds to win the Mark Twain Lake National Qualifier. The team stated they were one pole fishing in 6-14’ of water, catching their crappie just off the bottom with their own Elite Jigs in shad shatter and great white. A Mercury Motor, Humminbird electronics, Minn Kota Trolling Motor, BnM and Grizzly Elite Poles were used in the tournament. Ruyle and Redinger are sponsored by Elite Jigs and Midwest Land Sales plus took home a check for $5160.00 which included a $250.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol for using E10 gasoline in their boat and $910.00 for catching the big crappie of the tournament at 1.96 pounds.
Second place and top Male/Female honors went to the team of Paul
and Elizabeth Turner, Tennessee, with 5.15 pounds. The Turner’s were spider rigging in 12-14 foot of water using double minnow rigs while catching their crappie around 10’ deep. Using Humminbird electronics, a Minn Kota Trolling Motor, and Bass Pro Shops fishing line, the husband/wife fishing team received a check for $2000.00 and a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card.
Barry Morrow and Chad Maupin finished in third place with 5.14 pounds. The Missouri team stated they were two pole trolling in 12-20’ of water, catching their crappie at 12’ deep on 2” Bobby Garland Slab Slayer blue/white jigs tipped with minnows. Morrow and Maupin took home $1000.00 for their efforts and are sponsored by Crappietown, Stump Jumper, Off Shore Tackle, Beaver Bottom Baits, Huckabee Rods, Perotti Rod Holders, Rocky Top, and Brush Lunker.
Fourth place with 5.08 pounds went to Rick and Jeremy Taylor, both from Missouri. They received a check for $850.00.
Chris Dudgeon and Bo Shephard, Missouri, finished in fifth place with 4.92 pounds and earned a check for $725.00.
Top finishing Adult/Youth team was Aaron and Dylan Clark, Iowa, with 4.37 pounds. The Clarks won a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card, a $100.00 Everhart’s Sporting Goods gift card, and a $250.00 check for finishing 13th overall in the tournament.
