Brown And Coy Ward Off Hard Charging Turners To Claim American Ethanol Kentucky/Tennessee State Championship

After heavy rains prior to tournament days sent Kentucky Lake on a fast rise, tournament days themselves were mild however fishing was anything but.  With quality fish scattered and hard to find, the 80 Anglers that took part in the Crappie Masters sponsored by the Renewable Fuels Association “Ethanol Fueled With Pride”, American Ethanol, and Bass Pro Shops Kentucky and Barkley Lakes National Qualifier American Ethanol Kentucky/Tennessee State Championship April 27th and 28th out of Paris, Tennessee, sent some teams to Barkley Lake where they found healthier and better quality fish. When the smoke cleared and the dust settled, the team of Austin Brown and Buddy Coy outlasted an 11 plus pound second day by Paul and Elizabeth Turner with one of their own to claim the title with 14 fish weighing 20.74 pounds and the $5,000.00 winners check. Brown and Coy also collected an additional $500.00 for using E10 fuel in their Boat compliments of The Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, plus another $100.00 Jenko Fishing bonus for Jenko products. With wind a bit of a factor on Championship Saturday, Brown and Coy took advantage of their MinnKota Trolling Motor to stay on their fish 2-poling B’n’M Poles in 15 to 25 feet of water, catching the better fish anywhere from 10 to 20 foot using mainly Midsouth Tackle Green/Chartreuse tubes.

Runner up honors went to the team of Paul and Elizabeth Turner who continued a strong 2018 campaign bringing 14 fish to the scale that weighed 20.01 pounds collecting the $2,500.00 runner up prize. The Turners chose to fish Barkley and nearly pulled out their second victory of the 2018 season. Paul and Elizabeth spider rigged B’n’M Poles using minnows in 8 to 11 feet of water catching fish close to the bottom. The Turners also credited their Humminbird Electronics and MinnKota Trolling Motor as vital in finding better fish and keeping them at the proper speed to break 20 pounds. The Turners also were the top Male/Female team in the tournament and won a Humminbird Helix 5 for that honor. Paul and Elizabeth Turner are sponsored by B’n’M Poles, Strike King Lure Company, and Crappieholic.

The team of Sammy Tidwell and Danny Todd settled for third place bringing in 14 fish that weighed 18.36 pounds garnering them a $1,300.00 check for the two days work. Tidwell and Todd spider rigged B’n’M and Jenko Poles in 8 to 18 feet of water, catching the better fish close to the bottom. Both Sammy and Danny said Humminbird Electronics was a part of their success along with their Mercury Motor to make the longer runs. Tidwell and Todd are sponsored by Jenko Fishing and Midsouth Tackle.

The fourth place position went to the team of Tony and Mike Sheppard with a two day total weight of 18.16 pounds. Tony and Mike took home a check for $1,000.00 for their efforts.

The fifth place position went to the team of TJ Todd and Brian Hatch with a weight of 18.14. TJ and Brian received a check for $700.00.

Adult/Youth honors went the father and son team of Kevin and Brock Murphy who took home a MinnKota Trolling Motor along with a $100.00 Everharts Outdoor Store gift card.

Big fish of the tournament was weighed in on day one and was a 2.18 pound slab weighed in by the team of Austin Blakely and Daniel Harper who recieved a $560.00 check for that fish.
