Missouri Soybean Farmers Joining Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters on Tournament Trail PDF Print

(Jefferson City, Mo.) – Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters Tournament Trail has a new partner for the 2015 tournament season, the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council. The new ‘Slick as Soy’ boat and anglers Steve Perotti and John Martens, both from northeastern Missouri, will participate in tournaments in the Show-Me State and across the U.S. on behalf of Missouri soybean farmers.

“Missouri soybean farmers continue to raise the bar, being ever-more efficient with our land and water resources and investing in the future, and this partnership is no different,” said David Lueck, Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council chairman and soybean farmer from Alma. “We’re excited about the partnership with Crappie Masters and the opportunity to connect those who love the outdoors with environmentally-friendly, soy-based products they can feel good about including in their next trip.”

Soy offers manufacturers a local, green option for making a broad range of products, including environmentally-friendly lubricants and oils for everything from engine components to fishing line. The ‘Slick as Soy’ partnership works to raise awareness of the broad range of those soy-based lubricants, from products already available on store shelves to those currently being developed through soybean farmer-funded research projects.

Demand for soybean oil for those and other similar products has grown 85 percent over the past decade. Research investments from soybean farmers and their checkoff saw 33 new soy-based products come to market in the last year, including five developed in Missouri.

Crappie Masters president Mike Vallentine said, “Crappie Masters is honored to partner with the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council and Missouri’s soybean farmers and their checkoff in helping promote the ‘Slick as Soy’ campaign. Being a grassroots organization, we feel it’s a natural fit to team up with these outstanding, hardworking people, Missouri’s soybean farmers, to highlight the ways their work affects us all.”

In addition to soy lubricants, the ‘Slick as Soy’ boat and anglers Perotti and Martens will showcase the power of soy-based biodiesel during their travels. The team’s tow vehicle is a diesel-fueled pickup, running on B-20 – a 20 percent biodiesel blend.

Missouri Soybean joins an elite group of partners on the Crappie Masters team, including Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Boats, Humminbird, Nitro Boats and Mercury Motors. Learn more about the tournament trail and see the full schedule online at http://www.crappiemasters.net.

The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council is a statewide, farmer-led organization working to improve opportunities for Missouri soybean farmers through a combination of research, outreach, education and market development efforts through wise investments of growers’ contributions to the soybean checkoff. Hometowners Ray Looney and Will Evans Win on Tombigbee PDF Print

The first One Pole Ultimate Challenge of the season took place on Friday and Saturday, May 8,9, in Columbus, MS on the Tennessee Tombigbee. This tournament not only set the stage for the Angler Team of the Year points race, but also challenges anglers by only being able to use one pole and artificial bait only. Anglers from ten different states battled current, stained water, and fluctuating water levels all week before putting patterns together to show off this incredible fisheries potential.

Ray Looney and Will Evans, both from Columbus, MS, weighed in the tournament's top stringer on day two of 10.08 pounds to jump from fifth place to first place to win the Midsouth Tackle One Pole Ultimate Challenge with a two day total of 19.04 pounds. The home town team concentrated on 14-17 foot of water, finding lay down trees along the deepest channel ledges in the river, catching their crappie 12' deep with a combination of Midsouth and Bobby Garland jigs on 12' BnM Poles. Their boat was equipped with a Minn Kota trolling motor and Humminbird electronics. Looney and Evans took home a check for $5200.00 which included a $500.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10 gasoline in their boat motor and a $500.00 bonus from Midsouth Tackle for using Midsouth baits to win the tournament. The team is sponsored by Crappie 101 and BnM Poles.

First Timers Win The Stren Tennessee State Championship PDF Print

Kentucky Lake, Paris, TN, was the site for this weekends two day national qualifying event and host of the Stren Tennessee State Championship. Anglers were facing post spawn conditions and drastic falls in lake elevation throughout the week, but were blessed with beautiful weather and light winds for the competition. Another exciting weigh in took place at Buchanan's Resort in front of a crowd of 500 where champions were crowned.

The father and son team of Robert and Dewayne McCord, first time Crappie Masters participants, won the Stren Tennessee State Championship on Kentucky Lake with a two day total, 14 fish limit, of 24.77 pounds. The McCord duo were pulling a combination of jigs and crank baits along channel ledges with BnM Poles strung with Stren Crappie Mono in 25-31 foot of water while catching their crappie 12-14' deep during both days of competition. The team was fishing from a Ranger boat equipped with a Mercury Motor, Minn Kota Trolling Motor, and Humminbird Electronics. The win earned the McMords a check for $6900.00, which included a $500.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10 gasoline in their boat. Their sponsors include Cumberland Crappie, Crappie Reaper, and Southern Pro.
