Robert Jones Wins The Big Crappie Challenge On Truman Lake PDF Print

One hundred and eighty anglers from seven differnet states traveled to Truman Lake, Clinton, MO to take a crack at winning a brand new 2015 Harley Davidson Iron 883 Sportster from Yeager's Cycle in Sedalia, MO on Saturday, May 30th. Truman Lake, known for its incredible one pole fishing, was experiencing rapidly rising waters, falling water temperatures, and a major cold front with storms passing through that made for tough crappie catching conditions. At the end of the day there was over $25,000.00 in cash and prizes awarded as anglers toughed out of the day, in hopes of riding away with the top prize.

Appleton City, MO resident, Bob Jones, weighed in a 1.72 pound crappie, caught during the 1-4:00pm session to win the 2015 Big Crappie Challenge. This one crappie earned Jones the top prize of a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle valued at $9500.00 plus a check for $865.00 for winning the 1-4:00pm session. Bob was fishing from a Nitro boat, spider rigging in shallow waters with 12' BnM Sam Heaton Poles around flooded bushes. The winning crappie was caught on a Road Runner jig head with a minnow.

Robert And Todd Dent Win The Ozark Rods Open On Rend Lake PDF Print

Lake Cove Resort and Lake Zone Bait and Tackle hosted the Ozark Rods Open on Rend Lake Saturday, May 16, for a one day national qualifying Crappie Masters event. Mother Nature again played a role on tournament day for the anglers, but did not stop a huge crowd from coming out to cheer on the competitors. After the 54 team field, from thirteen different states, made their way through the scales, another local team was left standing on top.

Robert and Todd Dent weighed in a seven fish limit of 9.87 pounds to take the top spot and were crowned the Ozark Rods Open Champions. The Dents were one pole fishing in 6.5’ of water over submerged brush piles, catching their crappie just off the bottom with their home made Papa Dent black and white jigs on Ozark Rods. Electronics were a major player in their success thanks to Humminbird Electronics and a Minn Kota trolling motor. The Dents are sponsored by The Golf Cart Guys and took home a check for $4992.00 which included a $250.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10 gasoline in their boat motor and $742.00 for big fish of the tournament honors with a 1.74 pound crappie.

Missouri Soybean Farmers Joining Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters on Tournament Trail PDF Print

(Jefferson City, Mo.) – Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters Tournament Trail has a new partner for the 2015 tournament season, the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council. The new ‘Slick as Soy’ boat and anglers Steve Perotti and John Martens, both from northeastern Missouri, will participate in tournaments in the Show-Me State and across the U.S. on behalf of Missouri soybean farmers.

“Missouri soybean farmers continue to raise the bar, being ever-more efficient with our land and water resources and investing in the future, and this partnership is no different,” said David Lueck, Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council chairman and soybean farmer from Alma. “We’re excited about the partnership with Crappie Masters and the opportunity to connect those who love the outdoors with environmentally-friendly, soy-based products they can feel good about including in their next trip.”

Soy offers manufacturers a local, green option for making a broad range of products, including environmentally-friendly lubricants and oils for everything from engine components to fishing line. The ‘Slick as Soy’ partnership works to raise awareness of the broad range of those soy-based lubricants, from products already available on store shelves to those currently being developed through soybean farmer-funded research projects.

Demand for soybean oil for those and other similar products has grown 85 percent over the past decade. Research investments from soybean farmers and their checkoff saw 33 new soy-based products come to market in the last year, including five developed in Missouri.

Crappie Masters president Mike Vallentine said, “Crappie Masters is honored to partner with the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council and Missouri’s soybean farmers and their checkoff in helping promote the ‘Slick as Soy’ campaign. Being a grassroots organization, we feel it’s a natural fit to team up with these outstanding, hardworking people, Missouri’s soybean farmers, to highlight the ways their work affects us all.”

In addition to soy lubricants, the ‘Slick as Soy’ boat and anglers Perotti and Martens will showcase the power of soy-based biodiesel during their travels. The team’s tow vehicle is a diesel-fueled pickup, running on B-20 – a 20 percent biodiesel blend.

Missouri Soybean joins an elite group of partners on the Crappie Masters team, including Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Boats, Humminbird, Nitro Boats and Mercury Motors. Learn more about the tournament trail and see the full schedule online at

The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council is a statewide, farmer-led organization working to improve opportunities for Missouri soybean farmers through a combination of research, outreach, education and market development efforts through wise investments of growers’ contributions to the soybean checkoff.
