Hughes And Gillon Get It Done And Rule Rend PDF Print

What started as a promising practice week turned into the now customary rainy and windy Championship Saturday at the Crappie Masters sponsored by The Renewable Fuels Association “Ethanol Fueled With Pride”, American Ethanol, and Bass Pro Shops Rend Lake National Qualifier Ozark Rods Open hosted by Ozark Rod Company and Lake Zone Bait and Tackle May, 4th in Whittington, Illinois.

So Close Yet So Far No Longer Applies As Hackler And Wilkins Breakthrough For Eufaula Victory PDF Print

With strong winds, rain and even midday trolling motor battery issues to deal with, it seemed like another close but no cigar finish for the Oklahoma and home lake team of Dillon Hackler and Beau Wilkins who had three consecutive third place Crappie Masters finishes in the 3 prior tournaments on Eufaula was their destiny again, but not on this day as the team outdistanced a strong field to claim their first Crappie Masters win with a weight of 11.65 pounds at the Crappie Masters sponsored by The Renewable Fuels Association, “Ethanol Fueled With Pride”, American Ethanol, and Bass Pro Shops Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma National Qualifier hosted by the Lake Eufaula Association, and the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce. Even though the last practice day was absolutely weather perfect, teams knew things were about to change with strong winds and rain expected on Championship Saturday, and Mother Nature delivered making fishing productive waters nearly impossible for many teams who struggled finding quality fish which played right into the hands of Hackler and Wilkins as Hackler guides on the lake and knew areas out of the wind that held tournament quality fish. Everything seemed to be set up for a victory, until midday when Hackler realized the teams Trolling Motor batteries were dead and hadn’t charged overnight rendering them helpless to fish the way they planned. The team decided to tie a rope to a tree and did catch a couple more fish but was unable to upgrade from their morning total.  Thinking it was going to be another disappointment at home, little did the team know they had just enough to inch out the win over the team of Will Scott and David Earls who made a run at the title weighing in 11.34 pounds. Hackler and Wilkins single Poled in 8 to 12 feet of water catching fish generally 8 foot down using predominantly a bluegrass colored jig. While they could use it the team praised their Minn Kota Trolling Motor and Electronics to find the better fish and combat the wind. Hackler and Wilkins took home $3,800.00 for the win and an additional $250.00 for using E10 fuel from the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council and American Ethanol. Dillon Hackler and Beau Wilkins are sponsored by Redneck Rubber, Power Crappie, and The Bass Tank.

Storybook Finish At Lake Of The Ozarks As Jones And Surface Win Sponsor Tournament PDF Print

You could say it almost played out like a Hallmark Channel Movie as Kevin Jones and Billy Don Surface sponsored by The Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, claimed the teams first Crappie Masters victory against a power packed field of 99 teams April 20th at the Crappie Masters sponsored by The Renewable Fuels Association “Ethanol Fueled With Pride”, American Ethanol, and Bass Pro Shops National Qualifier and First Leg of the Missouri State Championship also co-sponsored by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and hosted by Captain Ron’s. Beautiful weather greeted Anglers from across the country the first half of practice week with large fish weights being reported with keeper catches in excess of 100 fish per day made winning weight predictions in record territory, but a very strong cold front late in the week changed all that dramatically as tournament day saw temperatures start in the upper 30’s but quickly warm into the 70’s however by then the big fish bite had changed which saw a lot of teams struggle to get close to practice weights. That was just the opposite for Jones and Surface as Billy Don reported he had no practice day with over eight and a half pounds on seven fish. That all changed on Championship Saturday as the team found an area about half the size of a football field just off the current where bigger fish were in a pod staged over open water. The first fish the team caught was a 1.91 pounder, the second over 1.70 pounds, and that generally set the stage for the day. Even though Jones and Surface have hundreds of stake beds on the expansive Lake of the Ozarks, they felt going back and forth through the area and staying put, patient, and “grinding it out” as they said gave the best opportunity to win. That feeling came to fruition as Jones and Surface sweated out team after team who brought their fish to the scale eventually claiming their first Crappie Masters victory, the $5,000.00 that went with that, an additional $500.00 bonus for using E10 fuel in their boat from the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, and $250.00 from Power Pole for being signed up in the Captain’s Cash program. Jones and Surface took advantage of their Mercury powered boat and as important their Humminbird and Minn Kota Trolling Motor package to stay just off the current on fish. The team spider rigged Ozark Rods in 8 to 16 foot of water catching the bigger fish near bottom by downsizing to a 2-inch watermelon colored Muddy Water Bait. Kevin Jones and Billy Don Surface are sponsored by the Missouri Corn Growers Association, American Ethanol, Ozark Rods, Muddy Water Baits, Ranger Boats, Ellis Battery, Power Pole, and Mercury Motors.
