Team McElroy Pound the Lake Talquin Field

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters 2007 season is under way. Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Boats, Mercury Marine, Minn Kota, Humminbird and the Tallahassee Sports Commission, competition began in Florida at Lake Talquin on January the 13, 2007. 112 anglers from 14 states took to the waters. 84% of the teams were from out of state. It was team Kevin & Stephen McElroy from Alabama that pounded the rest of the field. Team McElroy beat the second place team by 1.39 lbs., weighing in a 7 fish total of 15.01 lbs. Their excellent total took them the first place of $5,000.00 cash. They also tied for big fish with Steve Coleman with a crappie weighing 2.65 along with winning the Minn Kota bonus bucks for fishing with a Minn Kota trolling motor and a proplite.

Team McElroy fished 16-18 feet deep in 18-26 foot water. Using Chartreuse jigs tipped with Foodsource Crappie Creatures and Bass Pro Shops Wally Marshall poles the team long lined the lake.

Second place Whitey Outlaw and Dean Sanders from South Carolina also pounded the field. With a total weight of 13.62 lbs. they finished 1.41 lbs. ahead of the third place team while long lining very slowly. Outlaw and Sanders took home $2,500.00 cash fishing in18-30 foot water using live bait and B & M poles.




Third place team from Georgia, Larry Davidson and Brian Greene weighed in 12.21 lbs fishing in 20-25 feet deep with 6lb line and Wally Marshall poles. Their third place finish netted them $1,250.00. Fourth place team of Larry Carson and Robert Harris came in just behind with a total 12.20 lbs. Carson and Harris from Georgia took home $650.00. The highest placing Florida team was fifth place George Parker and Dennis Tittle with a total of 12.17 lbs.

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters tournament trail paid cash to the top 10 teams and prizes from the national sponsors, down to the 20th place. The top 20 teams qualified for the National Championship held at Reelfoot Lake in October of 2007.

The tournament trail continues in Florida with the 1st leg of the Florida State Championship on January 20th in Sanford, Fl., followed by the 2nd leg in Leesburg, Fl.
