LaGrange Georgia Kicks Off Divisionals

Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Mercury Motors, Minn-Kota, Humminbird and LaGrange Troup County tourism department of Chamber of Commerce, West Point Lake in LaGrange, Ga., kicked off the 2007 divisional tournaments on Feb. 10, 2007. Cold weather and winds moved in after a rainy day of pre fishing. 56 anglers weathered the cold weather to compete at the beautiful Highland Resort Marina.

First place went to Coy and Gilford Sipes (Team Road Runner), the 2004 National Champions, weighing in 10.55 lbs. on 7 fish. First place earned them $1,000.00. The Sipes stated they “spider rigged the New River channel with Road Runner lures suspended at 3-4 foot in 9 foot of water.”



Second place and $600.00 went to Darren Carson and Robert Harris. The team weighed in 7 fish totaling 10.11 lbs. The team trolled deep in 18-26 foot depth with white-red-chartreuse slider jigs and triple ripple.

Third place went to husband-wife team Edward Lorenz and Sherry Lorenz with a total of 8.88 lbs. Third place earned them $500.00. The team stated they caught their fish in the river channel on Tom’s Crappie Jigs using dark colors at a depth of 20-21 foot in 21-26 feet of water.

Fourth place went to Chris Prescott and Darian O’Neal with 8.49 lbs, earning them $400.00. Fifth place went to Lamar Williamson and Greg Johnson with 8.17 lbs. along with a check for $300.00. Big fish was won by Stanley & Rhonda Steed with a crappie weighing 2.45 lbs.

West Point Lake was the first tournament of the South Division and will be followed by Lake Logan Martin, Pell City, AL. on Feb. 24th.
