Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters Team Tournament Trail held a one day National Championship Qualifier and Mississippi State Championship qualifier on Mar. 17 at Ross Barnett Reservoir. Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Mercury Motors, Minn Kota, Humminbird and the Mississippi Development Authority, Ross Barnett continued showing it was an excellent crappie lake as the top 4 teams were able to average over 2 lb. per crappie. 140 anglers from 10 states competed. Gusty winds early in the morning made fishing difficult before giving way to a beautiful day on Ross Barnett.

Tennesseans dominated the top spots as Jeff and Terry Elliot took first place, weighing in 14.47 lbs. on 7 fish. The team slow trolled 7-8 feet deep jigs with teaser heads. First place earned them a prize of $5000.00.

2006 Ross Barnett champions from Tennessee took second place. B & M team Steve Coleman and Ronnie Capps used big minnows to catch a total weight of 14.35. The team fished in 3 to 12 foot of water saying early they were getting no bites but kept at it catching a fish every 20-45 minutes. Patience paid off earning them a check for $2500.00 dollars.



Third place team of Roy Logan and Wade Hendren, also from Tennessee, weighed in with 14.25 lbs. Third place earned the team $1250.00. The team stated they slow trolled using minnows in 14-16 foot depths.

Fourth place was won by local Brandon, MS. anglers Scott McKinion and Mike Norsworthy with a weight of 14.18 lbs. Fourth place earned the team $650.00. Fifth place went to Missourians John Shannon and Joe Meyers with a total weight of 13.78 lbs that earned them $575.00.

Big fish went to Roger and Bill Gant of Mississippi with a big crappie of 2.95 lbs. Second big fish went to Bobby Love and Harrison Quinton of Mississippi with a 2.75 lb. crappie.

The Kids Rodeo was held at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World of Pearl, MS. were 30 kids fished the stock pond. With a very cool morning, the bite was light as all the children enjoyed the prizes and fun of fishing.

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters tournament trail follows Ross Barnett with another excellent crappie lake in Mississippi, Grenada Lake in Grenada, MS. On March 31st. It is a one day national qualifier for the classic and the top 35 teams will qualify for the Mississippi State Championship.
