The 2008 season got under way as anglers competed at Lake Talquin, in Tallahassee Florida. Weather challenged the anglers with steady rain and dropping temperatures during tournament hours. Wind gust up to 30 mph caused some to give it up early as cold moved in during the early afternoon hours.

Conditions didn’t keep Jason Little and Wade Green from showing how its done. The team won the tournament with 13.04 lbs on seven fish. The team said the were long lining down the lake 12-15 foot deep. The team used Wally Marshall rods, AWD and Slider baits, choosing black/blue and chartreuse jigs. The Georgia team also stated they believe the Humminbird 997 played a large role in finding the fish. First place earned them $5,000.00 cash and VIP card from Bass Pro Shops for the remaining 2008 season.

Second place went to Larry Davidson and Brian Greene of Georgia with a total weight of 12.78 lbs. The team long lined in deeper waters from 20 – 50 foot. The team used yellow jigs and very slow movement on 1/16 head jigs to get deep. Second place earned the team $2500.00 cash.

Third place went to 2006 National Champions David Stancil and Earl Brink. The team fished at 24 foot depths on Showdown jigs with the choice of color being Green & Pink. The team from Alabama and Georgia earned $1250.00 for their great effort.

Georgia teams took most of the top spots as Big fish was won by Danny Cannon and Billy Williams of Georgia who weighed in a crappie at 2.43 lbs.

Toyota was on hand to show case the Toyota Tundra Truck at the seminar. Anglers had a first hand glimpse of the truck that will be presented for the 2nd place prize at the 2008 national championship. Anglers and the public can get a closer look and test drive the trucks at the next couple of Florida tournaments.

The Lake Talquin event is followed by the Toyota Tundra Florida State Championship series. Harris Chain of Lakes (Jan. 26) and Lakes Monroe-Jessup (Feb 1) are open one day national qualifiers for the State Championship held at Lakes Monroe-Jessup on Feb 2, 2008. All teams fishing both Harris and Monroe-Jessup tournaments will qualify to fish the State Championship
