Logan-Hendren Take First At Toyota Neely Henry Tournament

Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Toyota, Mercury Motors, Minn Kota and Humminbird and The City Gadsden held a one day major national qualifier at Neely Henry Lake on March 22, 2008. Big fish and excellent weights were the norm for the day on a beautiful sun shiny day as temperatures reached the upper 70’s. 120 anglers from 12 states competed.

Roy Logan and Wade Hendren of Tennessee broke the barrier and won their first major event. Placing very well in 2007 in multiple tournaments, the team had not placed first until Neely Henry. They weighed in 7 fish for a total weight of 15.19 lbs. They stated they were slow trolling the river in 12 foot depths using double hook minnows on BnM poles. First place earned the team $5000.00 plus a Bass Pro Shops VIP card for 2008.

Just out of the top spot was team Tracy McIntosh and John Woods. The team weighed in 15.19 lbs. on seven fish.They stated they were jigging structure with a pole in each hand at depths of 9-13 foot using Mid South Super Jigs that were a variety of colors mostly black/red and chartreuse on BnM poles. Second place earned them a check for $2500.00.

Third place team of Earl Brink and David Stancil weighed in 14.70 lbs. and won big fish, weighing in a slab at 3.29 lbs. The team stated they both got to catch the monster crappie as Stancil had the fish and it came off the hook and Brink caught him with the net. The big fish puts them in the lead for the year big fish and took the lead in the Alabama big crappie competition. The teamed earned $1250.00 for third place and they won Nitro Boat Bonus Award of 1100.00 for placing with a Nitro boat.

Next on the tournament trail is Clarksville, VA. The crappie tech school during the week and the Kerr Buggs tournament on March 29, 2008 is expecting to be an exciting week. A Virginia state record for crappie could pay an angler $100,000.00.
