Safer Fishing? What’s “The Catch”?

Phoenix, AZ – Fishermen are hooked – and they’re screaming bloody murder. With an estimated 500,000 to 1 million hook-related accidents every year in the US, any fisherman can tell you countless stories of the times they’ve been hooked.

Until now, hook holding solutions for fishing rods have left much to be desired, leaving most of the hook exposed and easy to dislodge. While it’s inconvenient to disentangle rods with loose hooks, the Take Me Fishing campaign and organizations like the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and the Future Fisherman Foundation warn of the dangers of injuries to skin and eyes from loose hooks.

Launched in January 2006, The CATCH Magnetic Hook Keeper Safety Shield was the first and only patented magnetic hook keeper on the market that completely encloses the fish hooks point and barb while carrying or transporting your rod. Using a nickel-coated high-strength magnet that’s one of the strongest in the world – the UV-resistant CATCH connects to your rod with neoprene O-rings. The “original CATCH holds a 22 midge up to a size 1 hook.

Based on customer requests other sizes of The CATCH product line launched two additional products in July’07 including The CATCH-BIG Hook Keeper for ocean fishing that will hold up to 4/0 (pronounced “one aught”) hook sizes and The CATCH-MEGA Hook Keeper that will hold up to 9/0 hook sizes. All of The CATCH models are designed to cover the entire hook point and barb. The CATCH, The CATCH-BIG and The CATCH-MEGA can also be used as a line keeper for changing hooks.

The CATCH inventor Bill Adams of AdamsWW, Inc., while fly fishing and testing his magnetic hook keeper prototype, accidentally slipped and fell head first from the top of a five foot high beaver dam. His hook never came out of The CATCH prototype. He then knew he had a product that would help avoid hook injuries.

Since the 2006 launch, AdamsWW sold over 47,000-units in 29-U.S. States and 5-countries with 24,000 of those units sold in 1st quarter 2008. Business continues to grow. One of AdamsWW largest global customers is Owner Hooks Co. Ltd. – Japan. Owner sells The CATCH products overseas to various countries under their name. In addition, a large U.S. retailer bought The CATCH products and placed them in 300-stores, in 42-states. Fishermen of all ages love using The CATCH products.

The Adams lost their daughter Jenny to asthma and a portion of sales go to support “Catch a Breath….for a Child with Asthma”, a program they founded in her remembrance to help other children with asthma through the American Lung Association.
