Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters held one of its few remaining national qualifiers for 2009 on June 27, 2009 on Truman Lake. Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Toyota, Mercury, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Clinton CVB and Bucksaw Marina Resort, hot weather, high humidity and lake pull down didn’t keep Truman Lake fish from biting as some anglers caught big fish on Truman Lake including the first place team of Don Brooks and Allen Morgan.

The team weighed in 11.35 pounds with seven fish to take the top honors. They stated they had a lucky day when everything went right. They used Ozark Rods and Outlaw Rods with Bobby Garland black/chartreuse, blue/chart and pink/chart Crappie Slayer jigs. They fished waters from 5 foot deep to 17 foot. They stated fish were everywhere and they caught a lot of fish. The breeze helped kept it cool and actually helped as they caught fish in the breeze and didn’t when out of breeze. They earned $4000.00 for first place.

Second place was Noel Fernandez who weighed in 10.12 lbs. Noel fish by himself as his partner was ill. The team used Grizzly poles with Bobby Garland blue/chartreuse jigs and Rocky Top jigs on a 8oz head. He stated that he fished creeks as the current wasn’t working for him and that they hit some good trees in the creek. He earned $2500.00 for his efforts.

Third place went to Jeff Lewis and Tom Burnworth with 9.83 lbs. The stated they fished the Grand Arm using Outlaw rods and Bobby Garland blue/chart jigs. They fished 10-15 foot waters. Third place earned them $1250.00.

The top twenty teams each had over 9 lbs. Big fish went to Steve Cross and Ralph Guffey with a 1.77 lbs crappie. Top adult youth team went to Toni Burnworth and Jakob Burnworth with 8.49. Top male female went to Larry Parker and Vanice Parker with 8.35 lbs.

The next qualifying tournament is the Mississippi State Championship on July 31 and August 1, 2009 in Tunica, MS. Day one anglers will fish Tunica Lake and Day two they will fish Arkabutla Lake.
