Matt Morgan and Kent Watson from Indiana took the first day lead by over a pound by weighing in 15.70 lbs and brought in 14.20 on day two for a total of 28.23. The champions stated they came down the weekend before and got lucky and landed good fish. The bite changed during the week. They had good fish day one by noon but day two a lot of boats were around the area they were fishing. They fished a hour and a half then decided to move and it took every minute of the day to get rest of the good fish as they caught a total of only 12 fish on the second day. Deep fish they had found were gone so they went to 15-18 foot deep and had to lighten up.

The key to them was to try and stay patient, keep the bait in the strike zone and be persistent. They pushed minnows with pink roadrunners and orange/chartreuse mid-south jigs and Crappie Thunders using BnM poles. The champions earned two Tracker V18 boats with 150hp Mercury motors. Top weight of the year also went to 2009 National Champions whom had a 31.69 lbs at the 2009 Alabama State Championship on the Alabama River in Millbrook, Al. which will host the 2011 National Championship.

Steve Coleman and Ronnie Capps had a tough first day finishing tied at the 53rd place on day one with 11.42 lbs. On day two they weighed in the top day two weight with 14.20 lbs for a total of 25.67 lbs. That took them to the hot seat first as the final top 10 from day one began to weigh in. They watched as all of the top ten leaders came in but didn’t have the weight to take them off the hot seat till the day one leaders took the championship.

Capps and Coleman stated they had so many places to fish that they tried to narrowed it down and tried for big fish. They had worked hard for 3 weeks using every technique possible. Fishing deep the fish wouldn’t stay alive so they moved shallow and got back to basics staying shallow the second day. Coleman added they started with Road Runners going from ½ oz, to 1oz to 2 oz in Grass with three different kinds of grass and had to find the right grass to find the fish. They used BnM rods, Capps-Coleman double rigs, Roadrunners, Minn Kota trolling motor and Hummingbird side imaging. Second place earned $10,000.00.

Kenny and Kerry Browning were in 33rd place after day one with 12.02 lbs. On day two they had the fourth highest of the day with 13.50 lbs for a total weight of 25.52 lbs. They lost a lot of fish on day one, Pulling Bandit crank biats in 30 foot water, BnM and Wally poles with vicious line. Caught most fish close to where they were on day one. The team earned $5,000.00 for their third place finish.

The final top ten changed as day one second place Cory and Gilford Sipes, day one fourth place Joe Miller and John Peyton, fourth place Sam and Cheryl Sandage, day one sixth place team Tom Sobaski and M Sobaski, day one eight place John Harrison and Kent Driscoll and day one eighth place Diane and Lonnie Stevens all fell from the top final ten places.

The rest of the final top ten were fourth place tie between Ron and Barbara Hollingsworth with a total of 25.44 lbs whom also won the top male-female team and taking home a Minn Kota trolling motor. The team moved up from 33rd place after day one.

Russell Riley and Allen Outlaw tied for fourth with a total weight of 25.44 the team moved up from being in 34th place after day one.

Sixth place went to 2006 National Champions David Stancil and Earl Brink with a total 25.43 lbs. The team won their championship on Grenada Lake in 2006. The team came all the way from 62nd place after one.
