Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters held the Toyota Lake Monroe National Qualifier in Sanford, FL on February 6th. Sponsored by Toyota, City of Sanford and Seminole County Tourism, the one day tournament qualified the top 15 for the national championship held in October at Truman Lake, Clinton, MO. presented by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Mercury, Humminbird, Minn Kota and Toyota.

George Parker and Darryl Cole took first place after a front moved through the area bringing high winds and cooler temperatures. The team did little pre fishing and fished up the St. Johns River. They fished the edge of the river channel looking for drop offs. Fishing 14 foot depth it was slow bite as fish were on the bottom and wanted a slow presentation. They fished straight hooks with Wally Marshall rods, Humminbird finder and Minn Kota trolling motor. They weighed in 13.83 lbs on seven fish and took home $4000.00 for first place.

Second place went to Bobby Hill who fished alone and weighed in 12.47 lbs on seven fish. Hill stated he caught all his fish in one area the size of a house. Fishing 18 ft deep in 20 foot waters the fish were on the bottom. He used a variety of poles including Wally Marshall, BnM and Ozarks and Humminbird electronics with Minn Kota trolling motor. Second place earned him $2000.00.

It was AWD Baits team Dennis Outlaw and Shelborn Bass that took third. The team stated they fished setting their jigs on the bottom. Fishing with Spike It and AWD baits including his possum jig ( Brown and Mint Green) the team said they weren’t happy with the catch till they found wind in the river and began catching fish. They too used Humminbird and Minn Kota products. They weighed in 12.34 lbs and won $1000.00 for third place.

Top adult-youth team went to Scott and Heather Finley with a 6.64 lb weight.

Top male-female team went to Deen and Sharon Ruppelius with a 10.64 lb total.

Big fish was 2.47 lbs. The 2009 Champions Matt Morgan and Kent Watson caught the big slab.

The kids fishing rodeo brought out 214 kids to fish for prizes and fun. Sponsored by the Bass Pro Shops Orlando, City of Sanford, Sanford Chamber of Commerce and the Sanford Herald all kids had great time fishing the stocked pond at Ft Melon Park. Bass Pro Shops of Orlando and Crappie Masters sponsors provided great prizes for all kids. The winners of the various age groups are shown.
