Husband & Wife Team Reedy Win Monroe Jessup

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters tournament trail’s 1st leg of the Florida State Championship and one day national qualifier was held in Sanford, Florida on Lakes Monroe and Jessup Saturday the 20th of January. Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Mercury Motors, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Seminole County and Sanford Chamber of Commerce the tournament brought crowds to watch the weigh-in being MC’d by Bass Pro Shops Pro Staff Wally Marshall (Mr. Crappie). With temperatures warm during the day and clear skies 162 anglers competed to take the lead going into the second leg of the state championship.
The Missouri husband and wife team of James and Barbara Reedy took the top honors. The team won $5100.00 for the 1st place finish with a 7 fish total of 11.82 lbs. Team Reedy also won big fish with a 2.41 lb. crappie along with winning first place for top male-female and a Proplite for Big Fish. Long lining with B&M poles, team Reedy used a variety of jigs including Road Runners and Sliders.
Talquin’s champions Kevin and Stephen McElroy from Alabama kept their hot streak going with a $2600.00 second place finish. With a total weight of 11.32 lbs., team McElroy used Wally Marshall poles and jigs tipped with Food Source. The McElroy’s are in the points race and off to a great start with two strong tournament finishes.
Third place went to George Parker and Dennis Tittle of Florida. A total weight of 10.98 lbs. earned them a check for $1350.00. The team stated they fished with Slider, AWD Bait and Culprit on Wally Marshall poles about 6-7 feet deep. Fourth place team Robert Edmonson and Brian Edmonson of Florida won $750.00 with a total weight of 10.60 lbs. Fifth place went to Bill Chaudoin and James Hidgon with 10.28 lbs. Adult youth honors went to Johnny Hill and Johnny Hill Jr. with 9.38 lbs., placed them 15th overall.
The first leg of the Florida State Championship was held during the Bass Pro Shops Fresh Water Anglers Weekend in Orlando. Many activities including Pro Anglers from other circuits and special appearances by Mr. Crappie Wally Marshall and Pro Staff Steve Deason and Dennis Outlaw set the stage for a great tournament day. The tournament and kids rodeo was filmed by the Sportsman’s Channel’s “Revive the Outdoors With Cody and Cody show”. Jerry Adams Outdoor Show on PBS also filmed the event and MC’d the kids rodeo.
Bass Pro Shops, Seminole county, the Chamber of Commerce and the Sanford Herald helped make the kids rodeo a huge success. Over 180 kids participated and all received gifts. Kids 12 and under fished a stocked pond and caught a variety of fish, including large catfish and a crappie. Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters tournament trail now heads to Leesburg, Fl., for the final leg of the Florida State Championship. Friday January 26th will be a one day national qualifier with the championship on Saturday for the top 75 teams with a combined weight of Lakes Monroe-Jessup and Harris Chain of Lakes.
