Hall and Blount Win Grenada With 3lb Kicker

Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Mercury Motors, Minn Kota, Humminbird and the Grenada Tourism Commission, Grenada Lake hosted a one day national qualifier on March 31, 2007. Grenada was home of the 2006 National Championship and anglers came to compete on the well known large crappie lake.

Pre fishing weather was good with anglers on good fish before the tournament. Large numbers of fish were being caught during the pre tournament week. A front came in Friday bringing clouds and wind. Tournament day was windy and brought heavy rains during the weigh-in.

Bobby Garland sponsored team of Billy Hall and Monty Blount broke the 2lb per crappie mark to win the tournament with a seven fish limit of 14.38 lbs. The team slow trolled in a 100 yard stretch using jigs and minnows. The team used chartreuse Southern Pro and Midsouth jigs on B&M rods. Hall and Blount also won big fish honors with a 3 lb. crappie. First place earned the team $5100.00, The Re-Action System, Minn Kota bucks award and big fish won them $809.00 and a Proplite.

Second place was won by Fisherman’s Pro team of John Schantz and John Schantz Jr. whom weighed in 12.53 lbs. The team fished 4 foot deep with Road Runner Jigs on Wally Marshall 16 foot rods. Second place earned the team $2600.00.

Tim Naifeh and Chris Naifeh took third place with a total weight of 12.07 lbs. The team fished both Wally Marshall and B&M Capps-Coleman rods. Third place earned them $1350.00. Fourth place went to Randall Bloodworth and Ronny Patterson with 11.99 lbs. Fourth place earned the team $750.00. Fifth place was won by B & M team Steve Coleman and Ronnie Capps with a total of 11.46 lbs. Fifth place earned the team $675.00.

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters trail paid cash down 17 spots and sponsor prizes down to 24th spot.

The kids rodeo participation was near 200 kids. Fishing the stocked ponds, catfish were plentiful as the kids were showed their angling expertise.
