Lake Eufaula opens West Divisional- Buck & Young Win

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters held the first West Division tournament in Oklahoma on Lake Eufaula. With temperatures in the upper 70’s with very light winds it was a perfect day for fishing. The lake was up and most of the water was muddy.

First place went to Oklahomans Chris Buck and Brian Young with a 7 fish total of 9.12 lbs. The team used Crappie Pro jig heads with Yum Wooly Beaver Tails. They fished in 6 feet of water at 4 feet depths along drops and ledges using Wally Marshall and Outlaw rods. They were slow trolling and stated that when the wind would stop, the bite would too but when the wind blew some the bite was good. First place earned them $1,000.00. The team earned a more cash by taking first place big fish with a crappie weighing 1.86 lbs.

Second place team and top male/female was the husband and wife team of Roger & Pam Putman from Texas. They use one pole vertical jigging in 14 feet of water fishing down 4-6 feet. The team used minnows on a pink jig head on Outlaw rods. The team weighed in 7 fish for 8.79 lbs. Second place earned them $600.00 along with top male/female honors.



Third place was the team was Bass Pro Shops pro staff and well known angler Wally Marshall and Jeff Heuman who came from Texas to fish the tournament. They started the day dipping trees and found the bite to be very slow so later in the day they started slow trolling using a Road Runner head with a gold willow leaf blade and Crappie Thunder bodies on Wally Marshall Rods. The bite picked up dramatically afterwards and they weighed in a total of 8.46 lbs.

Fourth place went to the team of Jack Swafford & Ray Tole from Kansas with a total weight of 8.29 lbs. Fifth place was won by Barry Morrow from Missouri & Todd Huckabee of Oklahoma with 7.83 lbs. Sixth place went to Neil Purdum and Joe Crai from Kansas with 7.71 lbs.

With only a total of 28 anglers competing at the divisional tournament, each team will still have a chance to qualify for the national championship by placing high in the Fort Gibson tournament which is the next West Divisional tournament on June 30th.

A group of kids gathered at Gators to fish for prizes and fun. All had a great time and recieved prizes.
