Young & Caldwell win Fort Gibson

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters divisional tournament trail came to Fort Gibson Lake. Sponsored by Wagoner Chamber of Commerce, off and on heavy rains kept pounding Fort Gibson during the weekend and during pre fishing. The tournament had been re-scheduled due to high waters earlier this summer when water depths were 28 feet above normal.

Water conditions and weather didn’t effect the team of Chad Young and Art Caldwell. The team weighed in 7 fish for a total weight of 6.82 pounds. There kicker fish weighed in at 1.50 giving them 2nd place in big fish. The team stated they jigged with 6 foot poles in 10 to 15 foot of water with chartreuse jigs. First placed earned them $1000.00.

Second place went husband and wife team of Deen and Sharon Ruppelius with a 6.42 lbs. Second place earned them $600.00. The team also won big fish honors with a crappie weighing 1.64 lbs. Third place went to Bass Pro Shops pro staff Wally Marshall and Jeff Huemann. The team weighed in 6.1 lbs. to earn $500.00. Wally Marshall and Jeff Heuman also were the West Division Champions with a combined weight of 14.56 lbs.

Fort Gibson lake wrapped up the divisional tournaments for 2007. The next tournament is the Mississippi State Championship in Tunica, MS. sponsored by the Grand Casino Resort and Budweiser on September 21 and 22nd.
