Ross Barnett Delays One Day

Cold winter weather changed the day of the tournament at Ross Barnett Reservoir in Pearl Mississippi. Friday night March 7 brought winter weather advisories with forecast of over 2 inches of snow. With weather expecting to clear the following day the tournament was delayed for one day. Anglers receive a beautiful fishing day for the wait and some big slabs.

2005 National Champions John Woods and Tracie McIntosh from Tennessee won the tournament weighing in over 2 lbs. per crappie. The team weighed 14.67 lbs on seven fish taking the first place honors. The team stated they slow trolled west of the bridge below the river fishing 10 – 13 foot deep using BnM Poles and live bait. First place earned the team $5,000.00.

Second place team was Team Tundra Whitey Outlaw and Dean Sanders of South Carolina. The weighed in 13.40 lbs. stating they fished the river and move in & out of the flats. They used Mid South Blue Chartreuse jigs on BnM Poles fishing 6 -1 6 foot depths. Second placed earned them $2500.00.

Third place team was locals from the Magnolia Crappie Club. Charles Talley and Lonnie Hannah weighed in 13.34 lbs. jigging both the river and lake using Super Jigs, BnM Plles in 8-10 foot depths. The team also took the top big fish prize with a 2.97 lbs slab. Third place earned the team $1250.00.

The Kids Rodeo was held at the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World of Pearl, MS. The Mississippi Fisheries Bureau provided poles and rods with prizes from Bass Pro Shops. Grey Daniels Toyota held a chance drawing that was open to the public at the weigh in. A spectator with the winning ticket drawed for a chance at winning a Toyota Truck but did not pick the correct ticket.
