Braun and Brown Win Ozarks!

Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters held a one day national qualifier on Lake of the Ozarks April 19, 2008. With a front pushing through on Friday the weather brought colder temperatures with some gusty winds and rain. Tournament day remain chilly and overcastted with gusty winds. Crappie Masters flagship radio host Brad & Brian in the Outdoors emceed the event as126 anglers competed despite weather. It was Ken Braun and Russell Brown whom took first place with a seven fish total of 9.67 lbs.

Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Toyota Tundra, Mercury, Humminbird and Minn Kota, first place earned the team $5,000.00 and a Bass Pro Shops vip card. The team stated were jigging and corking brush piles on the shallow end of the Gravois arm using orange & chartreuse jigs on Ozark rods. Anglers had been reporting that the pattern for this time of year was different as a late spawn is occurring. Braun and Brown said the front really didn’t change the pattern on the fish they caught compared to pre-fishing.

Second place went to two time Ozarks winners, Jason Moppin and Gary Jones whom weighed in just behind the winners with a total 9.61 lbs. The team also fished the Gravios arm as their normal locations were not catching fish. The fished docks for suspended crappie using white and chartreuse skirts on Wizard rods. Second place earned the team $2,500.00.

Charles Bunting and Travis Bunting won third place with a total weight of 9.49 lbs. Third place brought the father-son team $1250.00. The team stated they were slow trolling in 2 to 18’ depths with bright southern pro skirts over their Porcupine fish attractors using BnM poles and Vicious fishing line.

Big fish was won by John Boise and Noel Fernandez with a 1.82 lb. big fish. Crappie Masters holds free kids rodeo on the morning of the tournament at each event and one lucky child wins a free entry into the main tournament. In 2007 Dylan Parmeley won and participated in this years main tournament. Fishing with Jim Price the team took the top Adult/Youth honors weighing in a very respectable 6.72 lbs. The team won $100.00 in Bass Pro Shops gift cards. First place out of the money husband wife team of Bill and Lorie Boosman won a Proplite from J.D. Huffman and won top male/female team for a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card.
