How do you cope with wind? ...Dean Sanders

Today was one the the strongest winds I've ever fished in. Wind limits the places a fisherman can go. It limits how you fish an area because the wind blows you all around and blows rods everywhere so it's hard to concentrate on a spot.

We changed from fishing just a 1/8 ounce jighead tipped with a minnow. The rig was just blowing in the wind so we had to add a 1/2-ounce weight above it. Bites were very difficult to see.

The key for us in the wind is to drag a chain. An eight-foot logging chain and going with the wind let us fish. The logging chain can be adjusted for the speed you want. More anchor rope out means slower speeds. It doesn't matter whether we slow troll with or against the wind but it's too tough on the trolling motor to go into a strong wind.
